MCBREEN ENVIRONMENTAL
Assets & Areas Typically Tested
Stormwater, foul water (attenuation ponds) & surface water pipe networks
Above-ground pipelines: valves, flanges, fittings – for leaks and retention compliance
Manholes, tanks & bunds (including firewater bunds)
Process drains, trade effluent sewers
Pipe sizes ranging from small local drains to large diameter sewers

Standards & Regulatory Compliance
All tests are conducted in accordance with EN1610 (Construction & Testing of Drains & Sewers) and, where applicable, the EN805 and EPA guidelines.
Integrity testing is often a requirement under IPPC / Industrial Emissions Licence / Trade Effluent / Water Licence / Local Authority / EPA conditions.

Cost & Timeline Considerations
Factors influencing cost: length and diameter of pipe runs, network complexity, test method chosen (air or hydrostatic), site access, number of fittings/valves, whether the asset must be emptied or isolated, and travel/mobilisation.
Typical test duration: small pipe section may be tested in a few hours; full network or large bund/tank tests may take 1-2 days, depending on complexity.
Full report & certificate usually delivered within 3-5 working days after test completion (depending on scale).
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an integrity test for drains/pipelines?
It’s a method of verifying that a drainage system or pipeline is watertight / leak-tight, free of defects, joints, seals working, with no leaks – using air or water pressure or other methods.
What does EN1610 require?
EN1610 sets standards for testing drains and sewers: test methods (air, water), acceptable leakage/pressure loss rates, durations, and visual inspections, including CCTV. It’s the benchmark standard in Ireland / EU for these tests.
When is a test necessary?
New pipelines or drains before commissioning.
After major repair or alteration.
As a licence / regulatory requirement (IPPC, trade effluent, surface water licence etc.).
If there are suspected leaks, contamination, or structural defects (smell, ground settlement etc.).
What happens if leaks are found?
Recommend repair (joint sealing, relining, replacement), then retest to ensure the system is restored to compliance.
How much does integrity testing cost for industrial sites?
Cost depends on pipeline length & diameter, test method, asset types (bunds, tanks, manholes), site complexity, and degree of repair needed. We provide a free quote after a site assessment.
