Swimming Pool Leak Repair Using Resin Injection Technology
Leaks within swimming pools can lead to ongoing water loss, blistering beneath tiles, structural deterioration, and costly future repairs if not addressed properly. At McBreen Environmental, we recently completed specialist swimming pool leak repair works using polyurethane resin injection technology to stop active water infiltration within a tiled pool structure.
This project involved identifying hidden defects beneath the pool finish, sealing active leaks, and repairing cracks and voids within the concrete structure using specialist injection systems designed for water-retaining assets.
Swimming Pool Leak Investigation and Water Infiltration Issues
The client contacted McBreen Environmental after identifying two small leaks within a swimming pool structure. Although the pool had previously been waterproofed and tiled by the client, blistering began appearing approximately five months later, indicating that water was tracking beneath the tiled finish.
Following investigation works and removal of selected tiles and waterproofing patches, several defective areas were exposed, including:
Hairline cracks within the concrete structure
Voids beneath the tiled finish
Areas of active water infiltration
Weak points surrounding rebar
These types of defects are common causes of swimming pool leaks and can allow water to travel behind finishes before becoming visible elsewhere within the structure.
Specialist Concrete Injection Repair Solution
Following consultation between McBreen Environmental and MC-Building Chemicals Mueller and Partners, a tailored resin injection repair specification was developed to address the identified defects and stop water ingress within the pool structure.
The repair works were completed using the MC-Fastpack Powertool and specialist injection cartridge systems, including:
MC-Fastpack Injekt LE
MC-Fastpack 2700
MC-Fastpack 2300 Top
These specialist polyurethane resin systems are designed for sealing cracks, voids, and active leaks within concrete structures and water-retaining assets.
Polyurethane Resin Injection Works for Swimming Pool Repairs
Initial injection works using MC-Fastpack 2700 resin successfully stopped infiltration within the larger exposed section of the swimming pool structure. Further targeted injection works were then carried out within a smaller defective section where water ingress remained present.
Additional repair works included:
Installation of MC-Fastpack 2700 resin
Installation of 1.5 kits of MC-Fastpack 2300 resin
Application of repair mortar to seal and fill around exposed rebar
During the repair process, tiles approximately one foot away from the main repair section began lifting, indicating an additional hidden crack or void beneath the tiled surface. The client planned to lift these surrounding tiles to investigate the area further following completion of the injection works.
Successful Swimming Pool Leak Repair Outcome
Following completion of the polyurethane resin injection and sealing works, all visible water infiltration had stopped. The client inspected the completed repair before the team left the site and was satisfied with the outcome achieved.
This project highlights how specialist concrete injection techniques can provide an effective and minimally disruptive solution for:
Swimming pool leak repairs
Concrete crack injection
Water ingress repairs
Structural void sealing
Waterproofing defects
Resin injection for concrete structures
